‘You Are My Sister’ marks the second body of work from the British producer, vocalist and classical composer MICHAELBRAILEY. This stunning, 3-track release on the smallestWRLD imprint is a hybridisation of more glitch-driven soundscapes and MICHAELBRAILEY’s signature style, heard in full flow on his debut EP ‘Pericardial’ (Hush Hush Records). The title track, a cover of Antony And The Johnsons’ ‘You Are My Sister’, blasts the original apart, rebuilding it to include warped vocal wails and clamorous glitchy interjections, underpinned by muffled piano and falsetto delivery which appears more upfront on this release than before.
For the B-side, Brailey gives us ‘Breathing Room’, a slow-burning sonic exploration into more abstract territory, originally premiered at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester, UK) in March 2015 for 4 loudspeakers. Accompanying these two original tracks is an uncompromising remix of ‘You Are My Sister’ by producer and figurehead of the 95SOUND collective, YUME.
